First Woman - First Manufacturer Elected to CAWA Officer's Position
Mary
Davis of NGK Spark Plugs has been elected as Secretary to the
CAWA Board of Directors for 2008. She has served on the Association's
Manufacturers Advisory Council and Board of Directors for the past three
years. Mary represents the first woman ever to be elected to a leadership
role within CAWA and the first officer representing the manufacturing
segment of the industry. CAWA is "pleased
and proud to have Mary enter the officer ranks of the Association and we
welcome her continuing contributions to the
industry in her new role,"
according to Chair of the Board, Bart Scott of CARQUEST.

Purchasing Scams Re-Surfacing
Association
headquarters continues to receive information about credit card purchasing
and products being shipped to Nigeria. Email solicitations are
re-surfacing and CAWA encourages members to beware. For more information,
see the Association's website (www.cawa.org)
and click on alerts. Should you be solicited, please send us an email so
we can monitor the trends and report back to the membership.
CAWA/AAIA Town Hall Meeting on Technology a Success
The future of technology
in the distribution of parts was the focus of a recent CAWA-AAIA town hall
meeting. Members learned about trends and future developments in
technology and its application throughout the distribution channel. Alise
Miner of SEMA moderated the event and coordinated the involvement of firms
such as ACTIVANT, Autologue, Wrenchead Solutions, Aftersoft, Transamerica,
and WebLink Solutions to inform the members of the future of technology.

of Delphi is Speaker at CAWA Annual Meeting
The President of Delphi's Product and Service Solutions will be joining
CAWA members and guests at the annual meeting in Las Vegas to "kick-off"
Industry Week. Scheduled for Sunday evening, October 28th, the
Association will host members, guests and friends to hear Mr. Ordonez
's perspectives on the
future of the aftermarket and what one needs to consider for their
business as that future unfolds. The annual meeting is being sponsored by
Autologue Computer Systems, Inc. and
Delphi Product and Services Solutions .

CAWA is proud to introduce the winners of the
CAWA 2007 Memorial Scholarship Award. This prestigious scholarship
is awarded each year to only the most deserving of candidates. CAWA
is proud to play a part in the furthering of the education of these future

congratulations to Melody Smith, this year's recipient of the prestigious
"Mort Schwartz Scholarship Award." This Scholarship is awarded to
the top scholarship candidate who stood above the rest. The
scholarship is a top honor and is named after one of the founders of the
CAWA Memorial Scholarship Program, CAWA Past Chairman, Mort Schwartz.
Melody is an employee at Automotive Import Manufacturing in Rancho

CAWA Collaborates for 2008 Scholarship Program with GAAS
CAWA
and the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship
Committee will be collaborating in creating an online scholarship resource
for students planning to pursue careers in the automotive aftermarket.
A new online initiative
will allow students interested in aftermarket careers to submit one
application for 2008 scholarships online at
http://www.automotivescholarships.org and receive consideration for
the following scholarships: California/Nevada Automotive Wholesalers'
Association (CAWA), Automotive Parts & Service Alliance (APSA), the
Breslow Foundation, and Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS).
Applicants must meet the individual scholarship qualifications to be
considered. More to come when applications are being accepted.

Workers
Compensation Fraud Alert
There have been arrests
made by authorities in California who claim that company management
employees committed fraud when they withheld workers compensation claims
to enhance their performance bonuses. Owners should be cautioned when
tying incentive or bonus programs to encourage managers to pay attention
and reduce safety issues within the company. One case has been recently
filed in Placer County and another case will be heard in the California
Supreme Court. For more information, contact

Meets with Assembly Member Emmerson
In furtherance of educating legislative members regarding the importance
and magnitude of the aftermarket industry, several meetings have and will
be held this year with legislators. The most recent meeting was held with
California State Assembly Member Bill Emmerson (R-63) who is Vice-Chair of
the Business and Professions Committee where many automotive and business
related issues and bills will be heard this session. For more information

In District Meetings with Federal Legislators Planned to Discuss Right to
Repair
To encourage federal legislators to support the national Right to Repair
Bill (HR 2694), CAWA has targeted in district meetings with
representatives George Radanovich (R-19) and Gerald McNerney (D-11). These
meeting will be held this fall and members are encouraged to attend and
let their representative know where they stand on issues such as the
"Right to Repair." Stay tuned for more information and if you wish to hold

Sexual
Harassment Guidelines in Play
Final regulations
interpreting California's sexual harassment prevention training law, which
was passed by the Legislature in 2004, have gone into effect and include
specifications on web based training. The law, which covers employers with
50 or more employees, requires all supervisors to complete two hours of
sexual harassment prevention training every two years. For more

Arizona Membership
Meeting Set
CAWA will hold a
membership meeting with Arizona based manufacturers, distributors and
retailers on August 28, 2007 to announce the Association's move to promote
and protect the industry there in 2008. Several members and prospects have
registered for the meeting which will be held in Tempe. CAWA's President
and CEO will be conducting interviews during that week with legal counsel
and legislative advocate candidates in Phoenix. For more information on
