Attention Wholesale Distributors with Machine Shops

In the early 1990's, CAWA sponsored legislation (SB 107) to exempt wholesale parts stores with machine shops from registering as an Automotive Repair Dealer (ARD) with the State Bureau of Automotive Repair. It seems that every few years, CAWA representatives need to meet with BAR officials to remind them of the legislation and the exemption.

We have scheduled a meeting with BAR officials for June 10, 2009 here in Sacramento. Should you have any examples of BAR enforcement representatives suggesting to you that because you have a machine shop you need to register as an ARD, we need to know.  We want to be able to give them examples of how their enforcement people are not complying with the intent of SB 107.

Therefore, please contact Rodney Pierini by phone, 800.332.2292, ext. 1, or email regarding recent experiences with BAR enforcement representatives that have come to your business saying you need to register your machine shop as an ARD.

Your experience with them will be good information to take (anonymously) to the BAR meeting on June 10th.
