Call to Action - AB 227 (Gatto)

June 17, 2013

Bill Will Protect Businesses from Prop 65 Lawsuits
CAWA and AAIA members are strongly encouraged to contact their State Senators, especially if they are members of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, to urge SUPPORT for AB 227.  The bill is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday, June 19 - so your prompt involvement is critical!
Prop 65 requires that a private business with 10 OR MORE EMPLOYEES post warnings when its knowingly exposing workers OR the public to any of 774 chemicals listed by the state of California. A handful of law firms are targeting businesses with drive-by lawsuits, alleging that businesses lack the signage required by Prop 65.
AB 227, introduced by Assembly Member Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles), protects small businesses from these drive-by lawsuits by providing a 14 day window to address alleged issues.
HOW YOU CAN HELP -- CALL TO ACTION!
Please phone your State Senator TODAY and ask for their SUPPORT of AB 227. Immediate contact should be made to the members of the  Senate Environmental Quality Committee before the hearing on June 19.
